Growth could come to this rural Hillsborough hamlet off I-75

Residents of Sundance, a horse-loving community in a pocket of south Hillsborough just north of the Manatee County line, are worried.

Worried that potential new development could bring congestion that could prevent them from riding their horses safely. Or that its wetlands and rural land could be paved over. It’s why so many residents have stayed involved in the development planning process.

Hillsborough commissioners could approve zone changes that could allow denser development in the area as soon as January.

“Florida doesn’t grow trees anymore,” one resident said. “We grow houses.”

SPORTS

First win: Bucky Irving may be one of the smallest guys on the field, but last night in Arlington, Texas, he gave the Bucs something bigger than a few huge plays in a 24-16 win over the Cowboys. He gave them hope.

Bolts beat Wild: Defenseman John Carlson scored twice, including the Lightning's first power-play goal of the season, as they beat Minnesota last night in Tampa for their third straight win.

Key to Rays’ ALDS sweep? The team devised a plan that required only three pitchers to start games but would incorporate all five of their starters. And after they advanced, social media lit up with reactions to the team’s success.
