Street corners crowded with municipal election signs are about to be hit with a second wave of placards.

It's understandable if you are already experiencing symptoms of election overload with civic and provincial campaigns vying for your attention.

On Oct. 17 we elect the mayors and municipal councillors who will steer growth, development and public safety in a Metro Vancouver over the next four years.

Then just a week later, on Oct. 24, we will determine the next provincial government by electing MLAs in 93 ridings.

There is a lot to cover.

Mayoral ballots are crowded with contenders in Vancouver and Surrey, B.C.'s two largest cities. Generational change is certain in Richmond and Coquitlam where long-serving mayors are retiring. And we are closely watching challenges to incumbent mayors in Delta, New Westminster and West Vancouver.

On the provincial scene, NDP leader David Eby called a snap election to capitalize on a disorganized centre-right vote. His opponents responded by mostly uniting under the Conservative party banner led by interim leader Lorne Doerksen.

Throughout the campaign our journalists will report from key battleground ridings and veteran columnist Vaughn Palmer will provide his unique perspective. 

Then on that first election night, Oct. 17, a Postmedia team of more than 20 journalists will bring you live reports, results and video from municipalities across the region.

The team will be back in the field the following Saturday to provide live coverage and analysis of the provincial results.
