A swastika was discovered on a Highland Park playground slide a day after Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish year, leading to condemnations from city leaders.

The suburban transportation company is replacing diesel-fueled buses with hybrids as it moves toward its Project Zero goal of an all-electric fleet by 2040.

Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham said the project will help transform Washington Street into a “gateway” into the city that is more pedestrian-friendly and safer for everyone.
