Parents, Caregivers, and Friends,
Eight school days in the books! Overall, it’s been a smooth opening to the school year, and students are settling into their class schedules and routines. I especially enjoyed spending time at our first home game of the season on Friday night—our students represented the USA theme with great energy and school spirit! Thank you for your cooperation as we implemented Opengate security screening for the first time.
Next week on September 8th, we begin rolling out Flex time during 4th period on Blue days. This dedicated time allows students to access teachers for extra support or enrichment. Students will use an online tool called Securly Flex to schedule time with their teachers, visit the library, or access other spaces and events. Today, students practiced using Securly Flex to book a session in preparation for next week. You can help us support this routine by asking your student on Blue days how they chose to use their Flex time.
We also look forward to seeing you on September 9th for Back-to-School Night, which begins at 6:00 PM in your student’s 1st-period class. You will have an opportunity to visit all of your student’s teachers to learn more about their courses and expectations. If you plan to attend, please ask your student for a copy of their schedule beforehand. Back-to-School Night will conclude by 8:00 PM.
Please enjoy the extra-long weekend as we begin to transition from summer to fall.
With appreciation,
Jay Pearson
Interim Principal

Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.
Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool.
New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.
- If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
Football Game Safety and Security Update
As we prepare for another exciting fall sports season, FCPS is implementing additional safety and security measures at all varsity football games.
Beginning this season, all spectators will participate in security screenings using the same weapons detection technology introduced in our middle and high schools last school year. A standardized bag policy will also be in place to help ensure a safe, efficient entry process for everyone attending our games.
These enhancements are designed to support a safe and welcoming environment while allowing families, students, and community members to enjoy Friday night football. We encourage attendees to arrive a little earlier than usual to allow time for screening. Get more information about weapons screening at football games.
