Weekly Update for September 4, 2026
 5th Grade Engineers & Designers
Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Stough dropped packages from the roof as part of the 5th grade Egg Drop Challenge. Students worked in teams to design and build packages that would protect an egg from breaking when dropped from the roof. Then the designs were put to the test.

In observance of Labor Day, all FCPS schools and offices are closed on Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7.
We hope all of our Willow Springs families and staff enjoy a restful, safe, and fun four-day weekend! We look forward to welcoming our Foxes back to school refreshed and ready to learn on Tuesday, September 8.
School Picture Day was on Tuesday, September 1. The photos will be available for viewing in approximately 2-3 weeks.

No prior experience needed; students in Band or Strings are still eligible to join.We sing a variety of music and have a lot of fun!
Rehearsal Schedule: Fridays during the school day for 45 minutes

4th Graders: Eligible to register for Strings.
5th and 6th Graders: Eligible to register for Band or Strings. (Students may select one instrument, but can also participate in Chorus!)
 Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and extreme weather. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
 Weather Happens, FCPS Is Ready
Virginia is no stranger to inclement weather. From severe thunderstorms to high winds to flooding, many different types of weather events can (and sometimes do) impact our schools. FCPS has a plan for each of these scenarios that prioritizes the safety of all our students and staff. What does FCPS do during a flood? What about a severe thunderstorm?

New Log-In Procedures
Campus Security Reminder: Physical ID Required for All Visitors
Please be aware that the "I Don't Have An ID" option has been removed from our Raptor self-service check-in kiosks (front office check in).

Bring your physical ID: All guests must present a physical, government-issued photo ID at check-in.

No phone photos/copies: Digital photos of IDs or paper photocopies will not be accepted.

No exceptions: Visitors without a valid physical ID will be turned away at the front office.
This applies to all lunch visits, classroom volunteering, and school events during school hours. Thank you for helping us keep Willow Springs safe!
 New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student. As a school, Willow Springs will not send home devices with first and second graders.

Student Device Take-Home Opt Out
I do not want my student to bring an FCPS-issued device home. The device will remain at school.
- If you do not want your student to bring their device home, toggle the Opt Out button to a green check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
As a school, we are using this system to determine who may and may not bring devices home. Students whose families choose to keep the device in school will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
