RHES Roundup: Summer Wrap-Up & The Final Push for Reopening
Summer programs wrapped up at RHES this past Friday, officially concluding a vibrant few weeks in our building since late June! With the summer session complete, our incredible team—from the warehouse and custodial staff to the administrative team—is in the middle of the final push to prepare for our staff's return this coming Friday. Thousands of pounds of furniture have been moved, almost 60,000 square feet of flooring has been stripped and waxed, and dozens of classrooms have been deep-cleaned and reset from top to bottom. A massive thank you to everyone working behind the scenes to make the building shine and ensure a smooth, welcoming start to the new school year!

Plus, don't forget that a newly updated ParentVUE mobile app launched on July 28, featuring enhanced security features and a smoother sign-in process to keep you connected with your student's progress. This new app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in. The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they have continued mobile access to their child’s school data.
In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. Although enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.

New Shell-ebrities in the RHES Garden!
 The Rose Hill Elementary garden has welcomed two new additions to the school family this summer! Back in July, a unique three-legged turtle named Maverick joined our resident turtle, Chicken Nugget. Just this week, another box turtle named Shelby joined the crew. Both newcomers are settling into their new home wonderfully. They’ve already been spotted enjoying the garden's summer harvest—especially munching on lettuce, carrots, and the fresh tomatoes that drop from the vines. Be sure to keep an eye out for our thriving turtle trio next time you walk past the garden!
Student ID Cards & New Bus Navigation System
Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, FCPS is launching a modernized transportation system designed to improve student safety, communication with families, and operational efficiency.
This initiative includes three key components: new student ID cards, upgraded bus driver tablets, and a new family bus app.
- As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs, FCPS will implement a new student ID system for students who ride our school buses.
- The implementation of the student IDs is designed as an additional safety measure for our 130,000 students who ride the bus each day, ensuring they are on the right bus and that they get on and off at the correct bus stop, as well as making sure only authorized students are on our buses.
- The IDs will be provided to students who ride the bus. Those students will be expected to tap on and tap off the bus.

Student IDs do not track student movement. The only information available is when a student taps on or off a bus. Much like our Here Comes the Bus app, our new app will allow parents/guardians to track the progress of the school bus.
- It is possible that the ID program will expand in the future to include uses such as library cards and meal payment.

- How the Student ID Cards Work
- Students who ride the bus will tap their ID card when boarding and exiting the bus. “Tap on, Tap off”
- These taps allow the transportation system to know which students are riding a particular bus at a given time.
- The system tracks the location of the school bus — not the student's individual location.

- Families should contact their child's school as soon as possible to request a replacement ID card.
For Rose Hill students, we will be placing the ID cards in a protective sleeve and attaching it to student backpacks.

The new school year is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to our Rocket Launch open house event on Thursday, August 20!
Stop by to meet your child’s teacher, drop off classroom supplies, sign up for the PTA, pick up your Kiss & Ride number, and get ready for a great year ahead.

Kindergarten Families: Stay & Connect!
If you have an incoming kindergartener, join us on the playground immediately following the classroom visits from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM for Popsicles on the Playground! It’s a fun, casual opportunity for students to play and for parents to meet fellow RHES kindergarten families.

Mark your calendars! Rose Hill Elementary is hosting Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 9, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
To accommodate busy schedules and families with multiple children, we are offering two identical, back-to-back sessions:
If you can't make it right at 5:00 PM, simply join us for the second session at 5:35 PM! Have more than one child at RHES? The two-session format makes it easy to attend presentations for two different grade levels.
During Back to School Night, you will get an inside look at your child’s grade-level curriculum, discover how RHES supports student growth and success, and learn how we can partner together for a fantastic school year. We look forward to seeing you there!
