July 10, 2026

FDA has announced that it will reopen the comment period for the Request for Information (RFI) on butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) in human food and as a food contact substance (Docket No. FDA-2026-N-2526) for 30 days.

The new deadline for submitting comments, data, and scientific information will be announced when the reopening notice is published in the Federal Register. FDA will reopen the comment period in response to stakeholder requests for additional time to compile and submit relevant data and scientific information.

Electronic comments may be submitted through Regulations.gov using docket number FDA-2026-N-2526. Written comments should be submitted to the Dockets Management Staff (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, Room 1061, Rockville, MD 20852, and should identify docket number FDA-2026-N-2526.

Please note that FDA is not reopening the comment period for the Request for Information on azodicarbonamide (Docket No. FDA-2026-N-4126), as the agency did not receive stakeholder requests for additional time.
