A prominent Montreal gun control advocacy group is demanding a ban on the SKS assault rifle it says was used by the gunman in Monday’s shootout in Côte-des-Neiges, The Gazette's T'Cha Dunlevy reports.
“For 36 years, we have been calling for a ban on assault weapons,” said Heidi Rathjen, spokesperson for PolySeSouvient and survivor of the 1989 Polytechnique massacre.
"Throughout all this, we’ve pointed out that the SKS should be part of the prohibited weapons. It literally is a military weapon."
