He needed a minute, or several, to himself to reckon with the role he played in another stunning loss, 8-6, to the Rockies on Wednesday afternoon. His fielding error on a routine ground ball to shortstop extended a game-turning seventh inning, the turning point on a new low.
It was another bad moment on another bad day for the Red Sox, who could have swept the series but instead dropped two of three to the team with the worst record in the majors — a title they are threatening to take.
