Hydrogen: the fundamentals

Hydrogen

1 July, HSE Science and Research Centre, Buxton.

Hydrogen is a critical low carbon energy solution for the UK's net zero transition. As innovative applications expand, understanding hydrogen's fundamental properties and behaviours is essential for safe deployment.

This one-day course enables delegates to understand and identify the hazards hydrogen could pose to their own environments and intended uses.

Delegates will learn to:

  • understand hydrogen's physical properties and how it differs from traditional fuels
  • identify hazards when introducing hydrogen into existing systems
  • know the relevant regulations, thresholds, and when they apply
  • design appropriate procedures for handling liquid and gaseous hydrogen
  • respond to emergencies and select appropriate PPE

Working in high temperatures

Employers must ensure workers are protected during hot weather.

There's no law for maximum working temperature, or when it's too hot to work, because every workplace is different.

No meaningful upper limit can be imposed as many indoor workplaces have high temperatures that are not seasonal but created by work activity, for example in bakeries or foundries.

HSE's website has guidance on temperature in the workplace.
