Google Home update sharpens recognition, sound detection
Google is updating its Home platform to improve smart camera recognition by using cues such as clothing and body size to identify familiar people when their faces aren't clearly visible. The update also enables AI-generated event descriptions to recognize specific sounds, such as barking dogs, alarms and footsteps, and adds enhanced system health alerts for Nest thermostat users.

Foldables are booming, but major issues divide users

Foldable phones are gaining popularity, with shipments expected to rise by more than 20% this year, but users have raised concerns about battery life and hinge durability. The thin design limits battery size, leading to shorter usage times, while hinges are prone to wear and damage from dust and grit, they say. Other issues include odd aspect ratios, a noticeable seam along the hinge and the fragility of foldable screens.
