I finally made it up to the trail this past weekend and honestly it was exactly what I needed. The weather turned out better than expected even though the forecast had called for rain all week. We started around 7 in the morning and the mist was still hanging over the valley which made everything look pretty surreal. The trail was a bit muddy in sections but nothing too bad. We stopped at the lookout point around noon and just sat there for a while eating sandwiches and watching the clouds drift through the trees. I brought way too much water but I'd rather carry extra than run out halfway. The way back down was harder on my knees than I remembered but overall it was a solid day. I'm already thinking about going again next month maybe trying a different route this time. bQfv7op4ZJ1r21l There's something about being out there that resets everything you think you know about your own limits.

I tried my hand at baking sourdough from scratch this week and it was quite the process. I've been meaning to try it for a while but never had the patience. Let me tell you the starter alone takes days to develop and I almost gave up on day three when nothing seemed to be happening. But by day five it was bubbly and smelling right so I went ahead with the first loaf. The shaping was trickier than I expected and my scoring could use some work but the crust came out beautifully golden and crisp. The inside was soft with decent air pockets for a first attempt. I brought some to the neighbors and they said it was good which might just be polite but I'll take it. I think I'm going to keep at it and try adding some herbs next time to see how the flavor changes.
