I was just thinking about what you said the other day about the hiking trails near the lake. I finally went there last weekend and it was exactly what I needed. The weather was perfect and the trail wasn't too crowded. I ended up taking the longer loop and found this amazing spot by the water where I just sat for an hour. You were right about the views being incredible. I also tried that coffee shop you mentioned on the way back. Their cold brew was solid and the outdoor seating area was really nice. Let me know if you want to go again sometime. I'm free most Saturday mornings now that my schedule has lightened up a bit. We could make it a regular thing if you want. I'll bring snacks next time. It's been good catching up with you more often. I also heard there's a farmers market near the trailhead on weekends so we could check that out too.

I finally got around to reading that book you recommended, the one about the history of mapmaking. It was fascinating. I had no idea how much effort went into early cartography and how inaccurate those old maps actually were. The part about the Mercator projection and how it distorted the size of continents really blew my mind. I started looking at maps differently after that. I also read a chapter about the Pacific voyages and how navigators used stars and currents. It made me appreciate GPS a lot less and human ingenuity a lot more. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to pick up another one from the same author about the age of exploration. I think you'd really enjoy it too. Let me know if you've read anything else lately — I'm always looking for good recommendations.
