i finally got around to watching that documentary everyone has been talking about. honestly i was expecting it to be way more dramatic but it turned out to be pretty thoughtful and slow in a good way. the cinematography was stunning especially the opening sequence shot in iceland. my partner fell asleep halfway through which is typical for anything without a car chase. we had a debate the next morning about whether the director was making a political statement or just telling a visual story. i think it can be both. anyway i won the argument but only because i made tea and she was too tired to counter. the soundtrack was also really memorable i caught myself humming it while watering the plants. i might watch it again this weekend just to catch the details i missed. there is a scene near the end that ties back to the first ten minutes and i completely missed the connection the first time. i told my colleague about it and she said she felt the same way. we are planning to do a little watch party with snacks and discuss it after. nothing fancy just popcorn and maybe those cookies from the bakery on elm street. it feels nice to have something to look forward to that isnt work related. anyway that is what i have been up to lately.

also i started reading a new book that a friend recommended. it is a mystery set in a small coastal town and the chapters alternate between two timelines. i usually hate when books do that because one timeline is always more interesting than the other but so far both are holding my attention. the descriptions of the ocean make me want to plan a weekend trip just to stand on a beach and stare at the horizon. maybe in a few weeks when things slow down a little. we will see.

oh i completely forgot to tell you about the garden project. we finally built those raised beds last weekend and it was way more work than i expected. the soil alone took three trips from the supply store because i kept underestimating how much we would need. my back is still sore but honestly it was worth it. we planted tomatoes basil peppers and some zucchini. i know zucchini grows like crazy and we will probably end up giving half of it away but i cant help myself. there is something so satisfying about watching things grow from little seeds. my neighbor came over to help level the frames and she brought her dog who immediately dug a hole in the corner of the bed. we laughed about it and filled it back in together. it felt like a real community moment. i am already dreaming about summer salads and grilled vegetables.

also i signed up for a pottery class on tuesday evenings. it is only four sessions but i have always wanted to try the wheel. the first class was a disaster my bowl turned into more of a lopsided abstract sculpture but the instructor said it has character. i think she was being nice. there is a guy in the class who made a perfect mug on his first try and i am trying not to be jealous. the clay smell is really grounding though and it forces me to put my phone away for two hours. i might try to make a little vase next time. even if it ends up looking weird it will still hold flowers. that is what i keep telling myself anyway.
