Hey Bob,

Luca Lampariello is on the podcast this week.

If the name doesn't ring a bell...

Luca speaks 15 languages. One of the sharpest thinkers in languages, full stop. And one of my earliest references when I started doing this online.

He doesn't come on often. So this one's a treat.

We got into reading.

Specifically, why people try to read a novel in their target language and quietly give up after three pages.

Turns out there's a number behind it.

To read for pleasure in a foreign language (enjoy the book, not slog through it) you need to understand 98% of every page.

Not 90%.

Ninety-eight.

Sounds brutal. But here's the thing...

Luca reads novels in 15 languages. So clearly there's a way through.

What he's landed on is a daily habit. Small.

Weirdly small.

The kind of thing you can actually do after work without it feeling like another chore on the list.

He walked me through the whole thing on the podcast.

Have a listen. I think you'll like this one.
