Message from Mr. Greata

Dear Woodson Families,

As we head into the long weekend, I want to wish our entire school community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the profound sacrifices made by our armed service members who gave everything to protect our freedoms. We are deeply grateful for their service, and we keep their memory and their families in our hearts this weekend.

What a spectacular evening at our Spring Orchestra Concert! It was a packed house of families, friends, and supporters cheering on our multi-talented students. A major highlight of the night was a moving tribute to our Class of 2026 seniors, who celebrated their four-year musical journey with a performance of New York, New York—a perfect throwback to their sophomore year spring trip.

The musical magic continued with our Chorus Concert, which featured a stunning menagerie of music covering almost all styles and eras. The enthusiasm in the room was absolutely electric!

A massive thank you to Devyn Wilcox, Amy Moir and Luke Frels for their incredible leadership, vision, and dedication in bringing out the absolute best in our orchestra and choir  students!

We are officially in the home stretch for the Class of 2026! Parents and seniors, please note these crucial upcoming dates:

  • Senior Award Ceremony: This Friday at 9:45am
  • Senior Sunset: This Friday evening from 7:00pm-9:00pm — a wonderful tradition for seniors to gather and celebrate their final days together.
  • Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal: Monday, June 1st, from 9:00am-10:30am Attendance is required.
  • Graduation Ceremony: Thursday, June 4th, at 9:00am. We look forward to seeing everyone there to cheer on our graduates!

Regarding the Senior Picnic, please use THIS LINK to access the signup. As a reminder, the picnic is prepaid. This year, we were able to successfully lower overall senior dues by changing the structure: families who wanted food ordered and paid for it ahead of time, while those who opted out of the food didn't have to pay for it.

Our student-athletes are also leaving it all on the field as postseason action heats up. Regional tournaments continue this week with the Boys & Girls Soccer Quarterfinals taking place this Thursday, May 28. Let's get a great crowd out there to cheer them on to the semifinals!

Have a wonderful week Woodson!

Finish the School Year With Strong Attendance!

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, Fairfax County Public Schools appreciates your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success. Regular attendance plays an important role in helping students stay engaged in learning, maintain connections with their teachers and peers, and finish the school year strong.

Attending school consistently also helps students build valuable habits such as responsibility, perseverance, and daily routines that support success both in and out of the classroom.

If your child needs to miss school, please remember to report the absence. Full-day absences can be reported in ParentVUE

If your child is experiencing challenges that are affecting attendance, we are here to help. Please contact your child’s school so staff can partner with you to provide support and resources. Learn more about attendance resources.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Now Available

Students in grades 9-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, we will share copies with you directly.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to your child's school counselor.
