The George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center will host a grand opening of the new emergency department at 10:00 a.m. May 13. The ceremony will take place at the main entrance of the new emergency department on the northeast side of the main hospital building.
The new Emergency Department will open to patients a week later on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Until then, the current Emergency Department is open 24/7.
The new emergency department is nearly twice the size as the previous emergency department, allowing VASLC to provide more efficient health care to Veterans seeking emergency care. In addition to increasing overall capacity from 14 beds in 10 rooms to 22 beds in 22 private rooms, the new construction includes a dedicated OB/GYN suite, bariatric room, resuscitation suites, and mental health suites.
The new Emergency Department is located just off of Foothill Drive on the northeast side of the main hospital. (Highlighted in red on the map below.) The new emergency department also includes a dedicated parking lot with a limited number of patient parking spaces.
