Some of the rain could be heavy at times this afternoon and evening, capable of producing some ponding on the roads.

More than 50 years ago, June LaJeunesse was working as a nurse at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, when she saved a newborn’s life — an action that would lead to a lifelong special bond with the Flynn family.

How Mass. has been working to stop ‘dangerous' wrong-way driving on highways

Massachusetts officials say they are weighing next steps to expand wrong-way driving detection systems across the state following the death of Trooper Kevin Trainor and renewed concern about highway safety.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation had been testing wrong-way detection technology at 16 highway ramps since 2022. The systems use solar-powered flashing lights and cameras designed to alert both drivers and law enforcement when a vehicle enters an exit ramp in the wrong direction.

Last week, a car was caught on camera driving the wrong way on Route 1 in Saugus, the same stretch of highway where Trainor was fatally hurt just days later. (See the footage in the video atop this story.)

Hall of Famer Wade Boggs says he's free of prostate cancer, urges men to get tested

Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs says he’s been declared cancer free two years after announcing that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“I’m a cancer survivor now. Prostate cancer is null and void. Thank God,” Boggs said Friday night after throwing out a ceremonial first pitch before Boston’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

Wade was alongside other living Red Sox greats who’ve also had their numbers retired. The group, which included Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz and Jim Rice, was on hand to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the club’s first home game, a 12-4 victory on May, 8, 1901 at Huntington Avenue Grounds over the Philadelphia Athletics.

‘Heartbreaking': Trooper and other driver mourned after wrong-way crash

There was a ceremonial procession Thursday evening to bring Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor‘s body from the medical examiner’s office in Boston to the funeral home in Peabody where his services will be held next week, as his fiancé shared on social media how she’s proud of the amount of love he’s received since his death.

Trainor was killed in a wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield early Wednesday morning. The other driver, identified as Hernan Marrero of Boston’s Roslindale neighborhood, was also killed.

Dozens of people lined up in front of the Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home Thursday, coming from across the commonwealth to honor Trainor. Those who spoke with NBC10 Boston didn’t know him personally, but said they felt they needed to be there when the hearse arrived after it was escorted approximately 20 miles.
