Pickles had a lot to say about the absence of croissants and other savories from her diet while I was traveling last week, but nothing to offer on law and politics. So, we’ll take the night off, something we haven’t done for quite a while. It’s incredibly hard to get a determined chicken who doesn’t want to move off of your shoulder, so I’m pretty sure I’m just stuck here. If you haven’t already, tonight would be a good night to catch up on the fallout from Callais, the Supreme Court’s recent gerrymandering case, what happened in Alabama, and how it can help us understand that this is about more than just red state legislatures in the Deep South rushing to do their worst to voting rights; it impacts everyone. So, I encourage you to read last night’s post, The New Jim Crow, if you haven’t already, and share it with friends. Nothing beats a gerrymander like voter turnout. That has to be our plan for November, taking all of our friends with us to vote. Friday morning, I’m joined for coffee and Substack Live by Mary L. Trump and Katie Phang, and you’re invited! 9:30 a.m. ET. Get a good night’s sleep, and mark your calendars for tomorrow morning.
