‘The best of the best': Trooper Trainor hailed as a hero after line of duty death

Several vigils have been created across Massachusetts honoring State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, who was killed in the line of duty Wednesday during a wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield.      

Trainor has been remembered for his service and dedication to the commonwealth, and although his career as a trooper was brief, state police have said he was highly decorated, with Col. Geoffrey Noble among those calling him a hero.

“At just 30 years old, and a trooper of only three years, Kevin epitomized what it means to be a public servant in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Kevin represents the best of the best, the best of who we are,” Noble said at a press conference Wednesday.

MBTA Green Line station closing for 3 years

A Boston MBTA station will soon shut down for three years.

Beginning on June 6, Symphony Station on the Green Line’s E Branch will be closed as the MBTA plans major safety and accessibility upgrades.

The changes will include four new elevators, raised platforms and more accessible restrooms.

Wellesley mom accused of killing 2 kids is emotional facing charges in Mass.

The Wellesley woman who allegedly killed her two young children last month appeared in a Massachusetts courtroom Wednesday following her extradition from Vermont.

Janette MacAusland was arraigned in Dedham District Court on two counts of first-degree murder. The 49‑year‑old stood in court in handcuffs, breaking down in tears after prosecutors outlined what they say happened on April 24.

A plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf. Her lawyer said he’d spoken to her for the first time 20 minutes beforehand.

Person seriously hurt in Dorchester shooting, several detained

A person was shot in Dorchester and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday evening, Boston police said.

Several people were detained at the scene of the shooting, on Milton Avenue at Fuller Street, after the shooting was reported about 8:08 p.m., according to police.

While they said she was seriously hurt, police didn’t know the condition the victim was in. They noted that her age hasn’t been confirmed but she may be a girl.

4th Mass. State Police trooper arraigned in Enrique Delgado-Garcia's death

All four members of the Massachusetts State Police implicated in Enrique Delgado-Garcia‘s death have now faced their charges in court.

Trooper Casey Lamonte pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday in Worcester. He faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and causing serious bodily injury; he is next scheduled to appear in court on June 16.

Three other state police troopers — Lt. Jennifer Penton and troopers Edwin Rodriguez and David Montanez — were arraigned on April 2 in Worcester Superior Court and pleaded not guilty to those same charges in the September 2024 death of Delgado-Garcia.
