Congratulations Mantua GeoBee Team!
Mantua Elementary School’s GeoBee team competed in the NOVA Academic Bowl at Katherine Johnson Middle School on Saturday, December 5th. Our team of three fourth-grade students and two fifth-grade students won three matches and placed 8th overall.
Congratulations to Aras Cavus, Roland Komiss, Tessa Kamath, Lleyton LaBeau, and Sogdiana Nasimov — all of whom also qualified individually for the International Academic Bowl regional competitions in Geography, History, and Science!
The team would also like to thank the PTA for sponsoring the competition equipment and supporting our students’ success.

Winter Volunteer Camp January 29-30
Fairfax County Public Schools are closed on January 29-30, 2026 — making this the perfect opportunity for kids ages 6-12 to volunteer in our community. Winter Volunteer Camp includes service projects, guest speakers, crafts, games, and more.
Volunteer service projects may include:
- Packing snack packs for the food-insecure
- Making art kits for children in the hospital
- Making toys and blankets for animal shelters
Fees: $270/one child, $480/two siblings, $730/three siblings

Last Week: Winter Food Drive through Dec 12
The Kids Care Club is partnering with Mantua’s family liaison, Mrs. Incer, on the annual food drive. We will be collecting donations in the lobby through Friday, December 12.
Earlier this fall, the PTA worked with Mrs. Incer to help restock Mantua's family food pantry for the new school year. Our goal for the winter drive is to gather items that will help families over the winter break and into 2026. We truly appreciate all of your contributions!
Items we need most are: oil, flour, tortilla flour (maseca), dry beans (NOT canned), rice, pancake flour, pancake syrup, pasta, pasta sauces, canned foods (tomatoes, fruits, vegetables, tuna), ramen noodle soup, snacks (granola bars, crackers, etc.), coffee, sugar, cereal, and personal care items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap).

Winter Party Coordinators Needed
As we head into the cooler months, it’s time to make sure all of our classrooms have a Winter Party coordinator in place to help with a fun celebration before our kiddos head off to winter break! Please see below for the classrooms that still need a party coordinator.
Coordinators will get a set date and time in December from the teacher and will coordinate simple crafts, games, and snacks for the class party, typically soliciting donations and extra volunteer help on party day. Note: we will also provide you with a party coordinator guide this year with ideas and suggestions to keep the party simple and fun!

Mantua Science Fair
Mantua’s Science and Engineering Fair is back for another year! It will be held Friday, March 13 at our school.
We can’t wait to see the students' projects this year! Not competing? Come check out the great projects or volunteer to judge.

Mantua yearbooks for the 25-26 school year are now available to order. All orders are done online and cost $20.
