Boston has a woke mayor. Mayor Michelle Wu is one of the most left-wing mayors in America – and with that comes a woke track record. Here are five of the wokest things she's done as mayor of Boston. - Tampons in Boys' Bathrooms
Under Wu, the Boston Public Library put tampons in men's (and women's) bathrooms at six locations in August 2023: Brighton, Codman Square, East Boston, the North End, Mattapan, and Roxbury. Wu praised this initiative. "Ensuring that residents have equitable access to menstrual products is critical for their health and well-being," Wu said in a written statement. "As we work to make Boston a city for everyone, we are excited to launch this Menstrual Equity Pilot Initiative that uses our City's public libraries across neighborhoods to remove barriers and provide critical products and services to residents and families." - Free Community College For Illegal Immigrants
The Wu administration spent $4 million to expand the city's free community college program to cover all Boston residents, including illegal immigrants, ahead of the 2023-2024 school year. Under the program, Boston residents, including illegal immigrants, attended one of six partner community colleges without paying tuition or fees: Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, Bunker Hill Community College, Massasoit Community College, MassBay Community College, Roxbury Community College, and Urban College of Boston. "Expanding Boston's Tuition-Free Community College is a critical step in ensuring more of our city's residents are eligible to pursue higher education right here in the City. This funding will increase community college enrollment and connect more residents with quality jobs," Mayor Wu said in a press release issued by her office Thursday, March 30, 2023. "I want to thank Congresswoman Pressley for her leadership and all of our partner institutions for their critical work ensuring that we are closing gaps and expanding access to education for all." - Genderless Marriage Certificates
In August 2023, the Wu administration announced it had updated the city's marriage certificates so people could omit their sex or gender identity on them. Wu's office said the change provided the homosexuals and transgender-identifying people with greater privacy, as NewBostonPost reported. "Our fundamental charge in public service is ensuring that our services and opportunities reach everyone, and that starts with affirming and supporting constituents of all identities," Mayor Wu said in a press release issued by her office on August 29, 2023. "Boston must continue to work to dismantle the historic inequities and injustices that persist. This update to Boston marriage licenses is a huge step in building a City that is truly inclusive, and I'm excited to see how these critical changes for accessibility at City Hall serve Bostonians." - Non-White Christmas Party
Wu's office has held an electeds-of-color Christmas party, which it called a holiday party, sparking criticism from conservatives. Wu faced criticism for this party, including from the NewBostonPost editorial board. "Now, in America, you can have any sort of party you want," the December 15, 2023 editorial said. "Invite whoever you want. Don't invite whoever you don't want. But when you're a public official and you create a semi-public event and you exclude people not on the basis of political party or interests or ideas or where they live, but on skin color, you're sending a message." - Taxpayer-Funded Anti-Catholicism
Mayor Wu’s administration awarded $200,000 in grants this past spring through the city’s “Beyond Pride” program, aimed at supporting LGBTQ+ organizations in the city. The money came from the city's operating funds, and went to 45 groups, with awards ranging from $500 to $15,000. One group was the Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. It received $500 in taxpayer funding; the organization is a drag group known for dressing in mock religious habits and making a mockery of Catholic imagery. So Wu is funding an anti-Catholic organization in the name of inclusivity – and she presents as Catholic. Horrible.
