Good afternoon. It’s Wednesday, August 13.

In today's newsletter:

  • President Donald Trump is set to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, a military base crucial to countering the Soviet Union during the height of Cold War that still plays a role aiming to counter Russian threats.

  • The Mendenhall River crested and began dropping this morning as a glacial outburst sent billions of gallons of water coursing through one of the most populated parts of Juneau.

  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner were the latest in a string of members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet to visit Alaska this month.

Anchorage weather

It's mostly cloudy today with a chance of rain and a high near 61 degrees. The forecast calls for a chance of rain tomorrow as well, but we should see partly sunny skies on Friday. Daytime highs will climb into the high 60s by the end of this week.
