Here's how it works:

​R - RECOGNIZE what research says about how children learn to read. The science of reading is a huge body of research, but I'll be sharing the three foundational concepts every teacher should understand.

E - EMPLOY effective instruction for all reading components. I'm talking about the Big 5 (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension), plus two more components that are often overlooked.

A - APPLY science of learning principles to optimize learning. You can have the best science of reading-aligned program in the world, but if you ignore the science of learning, it won't be effective.

C - CONDUCT assessments to drive instructional decisions. I break down the four key types of assessments and when to use them.

H - HARNESS the daily schedule and schoolwide systems for maximum impact. Make the most of every minute.
