Dustin May is a man of many facial expressions, and Tuesday night they all were positive — if occasionally fierce.
In the second inning of the Red Sox’ 14-1 win over the Astros, after May froze Jacob Melton with a sweeper that bent back over the outer edge of plate to strand two runners, he hopped off the mound with a scream, double fist-pump, glove-slap sequence.
To end the sixth, when Yainer Diaz’s floating line drive hung up long enough for Roman Anthony to make a running catch, May strolled slowly back to the dugout, face plain, mouth slightly agape.
The scene suggested fatigue. And that was fine. May’s day was over, and it went well. He tossed six scoreless innings — for just the fourth time in his career — in his second outing with the Red Sox, helping Boston snap a three-game losing streak.
