Wominjeka, friends. ABC Science Santa Jacinta Bowler here, letting you know it's time to unwrap those microscopes because National Science Week is finally here!
And it is all happening. We're just two days from discovering Australia's favourite underrated animal, as chosen by you in our poll, with more than 50,000 votes already counted.
While I'm obviously extremely excited to count down to the winner on Friday, which you can follow on a live blog on the ABC News website from 11.30am AEST, I am also feeling quite dazzled by the response from our readers and listeners.
We've had everyone from celebrities to Girl Guide troops letting us know their favourite, and it's been fun hearing the stories people have about each animal.
Some of you have told us about rascally rakalis, while others have stunning stories about swimming with dugongs. Truly magical stuff.
But it's not over yet — there's still a couple more days of voting to go.
Check out What the Duck!? to hear Dr Ann Jones interview experts on each animal, and then head to the voting page to let us know who should be crowned top (under)dog.
If you really want to get into the swing of things, there's also a great article about how to catch and study a dugong in under 30 minutes, a fascinating tale about how Indigenous knowledge can help save the warrarna (aka the great desert skink), and a
how-to guide for taking photos of wildlife with your smartphone.
There's a photo taken from my very own phone in there, so if I can do it, you can too!
If podcasts are more your thing, ABC Radio National is serving up incredible Science Week content too.
Big Ideas has a touching episode about dugongs, Lab Notes makes the case for the meat ant being underrated, and Soul Search takes a look at the science and spirituality of soil.
Before it's over, I'd really recommend checking out what else is happening for National Science Week in your local area.
There's always good stuff going on, no matter where you are.
Happy Science Week everyone!
As usual, if you have feedback, fun science photos or something else you want to tell us about, send us an email.
