Hi queer compadres!
 

It's fair to say that I live in a queer bubble — I have a queer job, I play for a queer soccer club, I go to queer parties, I read queer books and I proudly wear my queerness on my sleeve (in addition to wearing a rainbow wristband). So basically, I'm highly qualified to bring you this newsletter every month.
 

Living in such an affirming bubble means that while attacks on our community hit hard — why be mean to such an utterly fabulous group of people? — I also realise we have the collective strength to withstand whatever crap comes our way.

You know, like Mark Latham's alleged "abusive obsession" with Sydney MP Alex Greenwich, or Trump's anti-trans agenda, but at the same time we have change-makers like Greens MP Dr Amanda Cohn standing up for trans inclusion in sport and young trailblazers like writer Lay Maloney giving voice to the genderfluid Aboriginal experience.

We've made ourselves visible in the past — like at this gay rights protest back in 1973 — and present — hooray for Australian musician Blume (pictured above) who recently took part in the first ever intersex pride float in Amsterdam Pride's famous canal parade, and continue to party with purpose at pride celebrations at home.

There's growing calls from the youth and domestic and family violence sector for more financial support to assist the queer, trans and gender diverse community.
