Trump finally 'sends in the troops'. What now?

Uniformed federal agents from multiple agencies are now combing the streets of Washington D.C., the nation's capital.

Videos of ICE agents conducting raids and enforcement operations were posted by residents across the city on Tuesday as the first National Guard troops arrived in the city.

Donald Trump finally got his wish: he's using the power of the federal government to take over a city run by Democrats and is threatening to do the same to others: Baltimore, New York and Chicago, to name a few.

The administration just received the funding it needs to hire 50,000 new ICE agents, courtesy of the 'Big, Beautiful Bill'.

D.C.'s population remains on edge, fearful that Trump will push further and seek full federal control of city government. Mayor Muriel Bowser is going to great lengths to avoid a direct conflict with the president.

Meanwhile, residents of liberal enclaves around the country are doubtlessly worrying: are we next?

There's a few things to keep in mind, though. Firstly, any effort to repeal D.C. home rule is certain to end in failure, barring a major shift in Congress after the midterms.

Secondly, the president's hope of duplicating this takeover of D.C.'s police force and deployment of the National Guard is subject to some severe limitations.
