Good afternoon. It’s Tuesday, August 12.

In today's newsletter:

  • Authorities have issued an evacuation alert covering more than 1,000 Juneau residents and businesses in the path of potential flooding from a glacial outburst that began Monday.

  • The announcement that President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska this week immediately raised many questions. Chief among them: Where?

  • The evaporating king salmon fishery is leading to a consolidation of the fishing season on the Kenai Peninsula, with a narrower window for guides and local businesses to make the most of opportunities presented by fishing clientele.

This week, historian David Reamer shares a few items from his collection of Alaskana and explains how each ties connects with Alaska's past. From a cigarette-branded lighthouse card to Mount Spurr merch, check out these blasts from Alaska's past.

Anchorage weather

It's mostly sunny today with a high around 67 degrees. Looking ahead, the forecast calls for a chance of rain for the next several days, with daytime highs hovering in the mid-60s. We should see partly sunny skies again by this weekend.
