Dear Friend,
I’m heading back to California this weekend after a month-long visit to Idaho. We had a great time there with friends and family, and we got to spend a lot of time in nature, which is always one of the biggest benefits of being there.
When my daughter Ava and I first drove out to Idaho with our three dogs, my back was already hurting. Earlier that day, I’d lugged two 40-pound bags of potassium salt into the garage for our water heater, then spent some time digging up a patch of lawn.
Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that set it off—and if you’ve ever dealt with back pain, you know exactly what I mean.
Taking a 17-hour drive isn’t ideal when your back is already hurting. Sitting for that long is usually the hardest part, and that was definitely the case for me.
But once we got to Idaho, all the walking and limited lifting actually started to help. My back began to feel better. Of course, as soon as it started improving, I went out and played golf, pulled weeds, and stacked firewood, which didn’t do it any favors.
After going through a frustrating cycle where my back would start to feel better and then I’d do something to aggravate it again, I finally decided to really focus on getting it healthy. It’s been two weeks now, and I’m happy to say my back is pretty much back to normal.
The lesson I’ve taken from all of this is that healing takes time. You can’t expect to make a change and feel better overnight—even though that’s what most of us hope for.
Unfortunately, I think this is the second or third time I’ve written a newsletter like this. Somehow, I always seem to forget the lesson over time.
Let’s all take this week to remember that healing takes time, whether it’s from a physical injury or a mental challenge. If you can be patient with the process, you’ll likely be much happier in the long run.
Have a great week ahead.
Wishing You the Best,
Reid Tracy
