Talk about a 180 -- after temps over 100 degrees the past couple of days, we're falling to the 60s, low 70s today. And there's rain in the forecast, too. Other headlines this morning include the Celtics first-round pick in the NBA draft, and the Medford mayor's reaction to an NBC10 Boston report. I'm Kaitlin McKinley Becker and these are your top stories.

Much cooler air with chance of showers today through the weekend

We’re crushing the heat with this fresh, new weather pattern. I know you’re probably broken hearted about not hitting 95-100 in the coming days, but this about-face is a little dramatic.

Onshore winds will keep us in the much drier, cooler air for the next three days. Highs will struggle to make 70 in many spots, clouds hold the skies hostage, and occasional showers will scoot through from time to time.

This is reminiscent – but not entirely like – the temp drop we experienced the last time we hit 100 in Boston on June 30, 2021. Three days later (on the 3rd of July) the high was a measly 60 degrees. This time around, we’ll fall back to the upper 60s, which is still cool, but a little more tolerable than 60.

Medford’s mayor is reacting to an NBC10 Boston investigation that raised questions about a police sergeant using a family member’s disability parking placard while on duty at the police department headquarters.

NBC10 Boston published the report on Monday, revealing undercover video of Sgt. Barbara DeCristofaro parking in an accessible space with a placard hanging in the rear-view mirror.

Law enforcement sources confirmed the placard is registered to DeCristofaro’s elderly mother.

What fans need to know about Celtics first-round pick Hugo Gonzalez

The Boston Celtics decided to keep the No. 28 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, and they used it to select Spanish wing Hugo Gonzalez.

Gonzalez played for Real Madrid in Spain last season and averaged 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

Gonzalez plays with great energy, athleticism and competitiveness. He’s also a good defensive player at 6-foot-7 and 205 pounds. Gonzalez didn’t play a ton for Real Madrid last season — just 14.2 minutes per game at age 19 — so he definitely has lots of areas to improve, one of which is outside shooting.

5-year-old girl still critical after 3 children pulled from water in Gloucester

A five-year-old girl is still in critical condition and a 14-year-old girl is in serious condition after they were pulled from the water in Gloucester, Massachusetts, along with an 8-year-old boy, after the three were swept away from shore by the current of the Annisquam River on Tuesday evening.

Gloucester police and fire officials said in an update Wednesday that it appears based on their investigation that the three children were swimming at Wingaersheek Beach when they wandered off a sandbar and into the river’s current, which quickly pulled them away.

The Gloucester police and fire departments, as well as the Gloucester Harbormaster, were called around 7 p.m. to the Annisquam Yacht Club at 17 River Road for a report that a private boater pulled three children from the water.
