Cheese! Here are our favorite disposable cameras.

There’s a certain nostalgic magic in a disposable camera, especially during the memory-making season that is summer. Having to wait until you develop the photos to see them — and the promise of what could have been memorialized — offers an anticipation that the instant gratification of digital photography rarely allows.

So we set out to find the very best disposable cameras: ones that take the most reliable photos, are widely available, and are the easiest to get developed. And after a whole lotta snapping (more on that below!), we found a few options that produce beautiful, nostalgic results.

One last thing: The (very cute) results of our disposable camera testing

A gif showcasing various photos taken on disposable cameras. The photos feature Wirecutter employees at a work retreat.
NYT Wirecutter

A few summers ago, we ordered dozens of disposable cameras and distributed them to attendees at a staff retreat. We gave our colleagues no special instructions other than to have fun with the cameras, fill out a survey, and return them at the end of the trip. The result? Our disposable camera guide — and these really cute pics.
