Dear Fair Oaks Community,
As we transition from the end of the school year into longer days and summer vacation plans, I want to take a moment to share some updates on our Fair Oaks District Station and some of the initiatives we have been involved in.
I am pleased to report that we continue to see decreases in nearly all major crime categories year to date—a milestone made possible by our collective efforts and vigilance. Police Officer applications are up 25% as well year to date, and we recently cut loose five new police officers at our station, with four more officers that just recently entered training. We are still looking for more people to join our talented team of dedicated officers! You can visit JoinFCPD.org to learn more about the opportunities we have available.
Over the past several months, we have focused on enhancing safety within our House of Worship community. This initiative provides a platform for us to collaborate with faith leaders and ensure that our places of worship remain secure environments for all. It has been an excellent opportunity to share security best practices between our houses of worship and the police department. If your house of worship is not yet involved and would like to join, please contact MPO Charles Reinhard, our Community Outreach Officer.
As many of you embark on summer vacations over the coming months, here are a couple of important steps you can take to help us prevent home burglaries:
- Be Mindful of Social Media: Avoid posting travel plans or updates while you are away. It’s always safer to share those amazing vacation photos once you’ve returned home.
- Install a Security System: A reputable security system, registered with the police department, can help provide peace of mind while you’re away. You can update your alarm profile contact information with our False Alarm Reduction Unit here.
- Use Timers for Lights and Electronics: Set timers for lights, radios, and TVs to create the illusion that someone is home while you are away.
- Utilize Outdoor Lighting: Motion-sensor lights near entry points and well-lit pathways can deter intruders.
- Connect with Neighbors: Building relationships with your neighbors can help everyone keep an eye out for each other’s homes. Consider starting or joining a neighborhood watch program in collaboration with our Crime Prevention Officer, PFC Reuel Roopnarine.
- Register your Security Camera: You can help us solve crimes and keep our community safe by registering exterior security cameras with our Connect Fairfax program. If a crime does occur in your neighborhood, our detectives will reach out to you to see if your cameras may have captured footage that can help us solve crimes.
We are excited to announce that National Night Out 2025 will be held on Tuesday, August 5th. This annual community-building campaign promotes partnerships between our department and our community, fostering safer, more connected neighborhoods. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your local Fair Oaks District Station officers. You can sign up to host an event at this link.
To learn more about this and other outreach programs, we invite you to attend our monthly CAC meetings at the Fair Oaks District Station. For any questions or to get involved, please reach out to our Community Outreach Officer, MPO Charles Reinhard, or our Crime Prevention Officer, PFC Reuel Roopnarine.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a safer Fair Oaks District.
Sincerely,
Major Carolyn Kinney and Captain Brad Libby Commanders, Fair Oaks District Station
