Reclaiming Life After 50: Support Group for Women in Transitions of Life
Virtual Meeting on Wednesdays, July 2–August 6
6:30–8 p.m.
This group offers a safe, validating, and empowering space for women over 50 to explore who they are, talk about big transitions or changes in their lives, and find new meaning and direction during times of change. Transitions may include, but are not limited to:
- Retirement, forced retirement, or job loss
- Children leaving home
- Divorce or re-partnering
- Health changes
- Aging parents or caregiving burdens

The Ride Ahead Film Screening and Discussion at the National Museum of American History
Thursday, July 3
1–3:30 p.m.
The Ride Ahead is a documentary by Emmy-Award winning father-son filmmaker duo Samuel and Dan Habib. The Ride Ahead follows Samuel Habib, a typical twenty-one-year-old, itching to move out, start a career, and find love. But no one tells you how to be an adult, let alone an adult with a disability.
Following the screening, Samuel and Dan will be joined by lawyer, scholar, activist, and community organizer Ly Xīnzhèn M. Zhǎngsūn Brown (they/them) for a post-film discussion with the audience.
ASL interpretation, live real-time (CART) captioning, audio description, and assistive listening will be available.

Morning on the Mall at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival
Sunday, July 6, 9:30–11 a.m.
Morning on the Mall is a free program designed for children, teenagers, and young adults who are neurodivergent and their families. This event will include artists, performers, and athletes sharing their talents. Enjoy a calm and friendly atmosphere with fun activities like music and dance performances, hands-on sensory experiences, and demonstrations from festival participants.
The program will take place on the National Mall between 7th and 12th St. NW. It will be entirely outside, in shaded grassy areas that are accessible via concrete sidewalks and/or packed gravel walkways.

Ready for the Storm: Summer Weather Preparedness
Thursday, July 10, 7 p.m.
As summer approaches, it's important to be prepared for unexpected weather events like severe storms, flooding, and extreme heat. This presentation will teach you how to stay safe during these events. You’ll learn how to make an emergency kit, stay updated with weather information, and protect your family, home, and neighborhood before, during, and after severe weather hits.
The presenter, Courtney Arroyo, works with the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security. Courtney is passionate about helping residents build resilience before disaster strikes.
This presentation is hosted by the Northern Virginia Resource Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

After June 20, 2025, the Disability Information and Access Line (DIAL) will no longer offer help through phone, video, text, or chat. But don’t worry! You can still visit the DIAL website at dial.acl.gov to search for federally funded local disability programs and resources by entering your city and state, or ZIP code.
The Eldercare Locator
If you are 60 or older, or if you’re caring for someone who is, then the Eldercare Locator is there to support you. This service connects older adults and their caregivers to resources that can assist with transportation, housing, benefits, and community services. Call them at 1-800-677-1116 from Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. to find the help you need. |
