5 Days Until the Metrobus Redesign Rolls Into Effect

We're in the final stretch before Metrobus as we know it is transformed with new names for all routes, new destinations for some routes, and some consolidated stops, starting on Sunday, June 29.

What does this mean for Columbia Pike?

Columbia Pike is a major bus corridor in Northern Virginia, with Metrobus and ART routes that run east, west, north, and south. The current Metrobus routes 16ACEM will now be served by routes A40, A49, A66, and F44.

What about ART buses?

Arlington's ART bus service and stops will not change as part of WMATA's redesign. So if your usual bus is green and white, like ART 45, your route and stops will stay the same.

Learn your new routes at WMATA.com/betterbus.

Columbia Pike Construction Update

CPMM Segment D - Sidewalk Work

Crews are continuing to work on sidewalk reconstruction on Segments D and C, as well as installation of utility boxes and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile on Segments A and F, the project team is coordinating with regional partners like Comcast and Verizon to remove their remaining poles and overhead wires. (Utility service has been switched over to new infrastructure below ground.) Once those items are removed, the project team can complete final asphalt and curb work.

The project is still on track to be substantially completed at the end of 2025. Visit the project page to learn more.

Who You Gonna Call? The Correct Utility

It's summer, and environmental factors can be unpredictable with impacts to your home. If you experience a utility outage, it's important to call the right people first to get the help you need quickly.

Study Up: South George Mason Drive & South Four Mile Run Drive

Peanutabout - SGMD and 4MRD

Arlington County is conducting a study of the intersection of South George Mason Drive and South Four Mile Run Drive, to explore the feasibility of two possible redesigns to improve safety for all users of the intersection.

The concepts this study examines are:

  • Signalizing and improving the intersection in its current configuration
  • Redesign the intersection as a peanut shaped roundabout, or a peanutabout.

Watch an explainer video by the project manager to learn more about the project background, the two concepts, and next steps in the study, all on the project page.
