With all eyes on Rome as the conclave chooses a new Pope, I'm rewatching the 2024-movie Conclave. I'm obsessed with the cloak-and-dagger vibes of it all and Isabella Rossellini winning an Oscar for her role despite barely uttering a word. If you haven't watched it, do. It's gorgeous.
Naturally one thing leads to another, and I'm on a Rome deep dive – daydreaming about the atmosphere at Bar San Calisto, the classic carbonara at Trecca Roma, the mortadella sandwiches at Ciampini, the natural wines at Litro and the souvenirs from Antica Cartotecnica (I love the custom-made notebooks).
If you're feeling inspired to plan your own little Roman holiday, the timing couldn't be better. The Conclave is ramping up the drama, and the Jubilee is making the city more visitor-friendly, too.
