Is there an affordable way to appease a gift-conscious mom?

Dear Carolyn: My mother has made it very clear she expects a gift every year for Mother’s Day, and every year I get stressed about what to give her without busting my budget — and resentful that she’s greedy for gifts. (She definitely thinks it’s better to receive than give.) Any thoughts on affordable gifts? Or a way to opt out gracefully?
