Dear Bailey’s ES Families,
May is here, and with it comes a vibrant energy at our school!
This time of year is often filled with opportunities for our students to extend their learning beyond the classroom, and we've had many exciting field trips taking place recently. These experiences, which offer unique and hands-on learning, are something we truly value for our children.
In addition, next week marks Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. This is a wonderful opportunity for our entire community to come together and show our heartfelt thanks to the amazing teachers and staff at Bailey's. Their dedication, passion, and hard work are the foundation of our students' success.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
May 5-9
Since 1984, National PTA has designated one week in May as Teacher Appreciation Week. National Teacher Day began in 1953 when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt proposed that Congress set aside a day to acknowledge the work of educators. Since 1985, NEA has celebrated National Teacher Day on the Tuesday of the first full week of May.
Please join us in celebrating our wonderful teachers and staff at Bailey's Elementary School!
3-hr Early Release
Monday May 12
Bailey's will have a 3-hour early release on Monday, May 12, 2025. Students will be dismissed beginning at 12:35 pm.
|
This will be the final 3-hour early release of the 2024–2025 school year. Be on the lookout for a survey from the school to confirm your child's dismissal plans for that day. Your strong communication has helped us ensure safe and smooth dismissals on early release days—thank you!

May Lunch Visitation Schedule
Parents/Caregivers are invited to join their student(s) for lunch at school on an assigned day. This is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to come in for lunch with their child.
We encourage parents/caregivers to eat the same lunch as their child either packed or school lunch. We kindly ask that you do not bring fast food/outside lunch or candy. Also, parents please be advised that the bathrooms directly outside of the cafeteria are for student use only.
On the day of your child’s lunch, please arrive 5 minutes early so you can sign-in at the office and they will direct you to the cafeteria. Additionally, when you leave the school, please remember to check out in the office. If you choose to buy lunch from the cafeteria, adult pricing is $4.75 and may be paid in cash or by check. Click here for more information on purchasing lunch.
We ask that you please limit visitors to 1 caregiver, and no strollers please. We also ask that family members do not follow their child's class back to the classroom or outside for recess.
Please see below for the scheduled lunches by teacher:
Field Day for Bailey’s Primary
•Kindergarten Monday, May 19th from 9:15 AM until approximately 11:20 AM
•1st Grade Monday, May 19th from 1:00 PM until approximately 3:00 PM
•2nd Grade Tuesday. May 20th from 9:15 AM until approximately 11:20 AM
How students can be prepared for Field Day:
✓ Because the weather will likely be warm, students should wear comfortable and cool clothing.
✓ Students must also wear sneakers/tennis shoes. No boots, sandals, or flip-flops should be worn on this day.
✓ Hats and visors may be worn for protection from the sun.
✓ Please have your child bring a water bottle WITH THEIR NAME ON IT so it can be carried around all the stations. Drinking water will be available for refills. No glass containers please.
✓ Please do not bring juice, soda or any drink other than water, as it could attract bees.
✓ Some stations will involve water and students may get a little wet. If students do not want to get wet they should notify their teacher.
✓ Students may wish to bring a towel and dry outfit to change into after field day.
✓ This event is for current Bailey’s students AND the parents who signed up to help run a station. Parent volunteers are not allowed to bring other children to this event. There will be sign-ups going out in the Thursday folder.
✓ Most importantly… Be prepared to have FUN!!
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

National School Nurse Day
National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 7. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
FCPS appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs) for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students. Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn. School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
Please join us in thanking the PHNs for their hard work and dedication to FCPS students.

Excellence at a Crossroads: FCPS Budget Update
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will begin finalizing the budget on Tuesday, May 6. The current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Without new revenue, such as the meals tax (adding just $2-3 to an average dining bill for a family of four), FCPS will face significant cuts.
What Is at Risk?
Go to fcps.edu/crossroads to see examples of where FCPS exceeds minimum state standards.
