Good afternoon. It’s Friday, May 2.

In today's newsletter:

  • Alaska’s only short-term residential mental health program for adolescents is closing, cutting off a critical service in a state where options for teenagers in crisis are already limited.

  • The Senate Finance Committee shrank the size of the Permanent Fund dividend in its draft operating budget to roughly $1,000 per person.

  • Protesters descended on Anchorage’s Delaney Park Strip on Thursday, bringing together supporters of more than a half-dozen organizing groups focusing on workers’ rights and health care, among other issues.

A couple of sunny days really help to make it feel like springtime in Southcentral Alaska. There are plenty of things to do around Anchorage this weekend for those looking to make the most of this window of fair weather we have. You can attend a First Friday opening, hear from a famed public radio personality or join a citywide spring cleanup. Check out more weekend events here.
