This week, I finally caught up with Drop, the recent thriller about a woman played by Meghann Fahy who goes out on a first date and suddenly starts receiving messages on her phone demanding that she kill her date. If she doesn't ... her own son and sister, who are being held back at her house by a masked man she can see on her security cameras, will die. This is a very silly and really good premise for a thriller, and I enjoyed it very much.
I didn't know a lot about the Karen Read case before I watched the five-part docuseries A Body In The Snow: The Trial of Karen Read, now streaming on Max. Read is accused of killing her boyfriend, a Boston area police officer, by hitting him with her car after a night of drinking. Read and her lawyers gave extensive access to the filmmakers, who followed them in this series through her trial. (Well, her first trial. Spoiler alert.) It's the kind of true-crime piece that made me want to sit down with friends and speculate about what really happened, in part because the case has been so badly distorted by public attention and problems caused by her "supporters."
This week, I played a bit of the game Thank Goodness You're Here on the PS5, and I enjoyed it very much. You play a tiny, round traveling salesman who visits a small town and is constantly sidetracked by the local residents into doing little tasks for them. It's very funny, like running through a great little cartoon, and it's simple enough that you can play it without taxing yourself.
