We celebrated our school spirit by having a schoolwide House Pep Rally on Monday, April 28th. Select Mustangs from each of our four Houses (Blazers, Broncos, Colts and Stallions) enjoyed playing a fun game of musical chairs.

Congratulations to the Blazers and Colts who met their House goal and earned reward time!

A Note from Mrs. Goddin...

Hello MUES Families,

May is here and we're down to less than 30 days left of the school year! This past week was a busy one for the MUES family. We celebrated our annual spring art show, 5th and 6th grade spring chorus concert, and spring book fair on Wednesday evening. It was incredible to see so many of our families at this event to celebrate the arts and the great work of our talented Mustangs- both students and staff!

With the spring chorus behind us, Ms. Scott, general music teacher, has now transitioned to organizing our Talent Show, which will be held during the school day on Friday, June 6th. We had more than 50 of our Mustangs audition for a spot in our upcoming Talent Show by sharing their talent on Thursday. From Bollywood dancing to Irish dancing, we saw so many wonderful acts. Ms. Scott and I can't wait for everyone else to see them!

Next week is one of the most special weeks of the school year as we celebrate Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! I am overwhelmed by the number of donations we have received over the past two weeks as Ms. Watson, Principal of McNair ES, the McNair PTA, and I prepare to make it a great week for each and everyone of our colleagues. We are fortunate to have such caring staff members who selflessly give so much of their time beyond our school hours to ensure that every student in our Mustang family experiences success and feels cared for.

If your child would like to also get involved in making next week a special one for our teachers and staff, below is a calendar of events they can consider participating in.

Lastly, don't forget that we kick off the SOL testing season on Thursday, May 8th as our 3rd graders take their Reading SOL. Please join me in wishing them the best of luck as they rock their first-ever SOL test!

Despite the expected rain in this weekend's forecast, I hope that you enjoy it!

Sincerely,

Melissa Goddin

Your Proud Principal

Last Call-Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

taw

The McNair PTA is planning for "Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week" that will be celebrated the week of May 5th- May 9th with the theme- "Back to the 90s!" We are seeking donations for many of the supplies we need in order to celebrate our wonderful teachers and staff members at both McNair ES and McNair Upper ES throughout the entire week.

If you're able to give, please sign-up for the items you wish to donate using the following link: Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week 2025 Sign-Up

Donations can be dropped off to either school's main office no later than Wednesday, April 30th. As a friendly reminder, there 120 teachers and staff members employed at McNair ES and 90 teachers and staff members employed at McNair Upper ES.

If it is easier for you to provide a financial donation directly to the PTA to assist with the cost of the activities we have planned, you can donate at: https://mcnairespta.givebacks.com/store/items/1180564

On behalf of the McNair PTA, we thank you in advance for your generous donation in an effort to make this weeklong celebration a fantastic one for our teachers and staff!

MUES Book Drive

books

Through the end of the school year, McNair Upper is collecting gently used, high interest children's’ books at all reading levels to support the new McNair Summer Bookmobile! We will visit several sites in the community throughout the summer to offer a free “little free library on wheels” for our students. Staff, students and families may drop off book donations in the designated box in the McNair Upper front office.

We are also seeking financial support to fund this project. If you know of a business that can provide monetary donations to support our students’ summer reading, please reach out to Mallory Janofsky at mljanofsky@fcps.edu for details.

Class Placement Parent/Guardian Input Form for the 25-26 School Year

As administration begins collaborating with classroom teachers to form grade level classes for the 2025-2026 school year, we understand that parent/guardian input is valuable to consider too.

We kindly ask that you do not request specific teachers; rather keep the focus on the type of learning environment and learning style that will support your child's academic and social wellness success.

Interested parents/guardians that would like the opportunity to share their input with administration should do so no later than Friday, May 16th.

Please click on and fill out the appropriate grade level Parent/Guardian Input Form below:

Rising 4th Grade Parent/Guardian Input Form

Rising 5th Grade Parent/Guardian Input Form

Thank you for your continued partnership in making your child’s experience at McNair Upper ES a positive one!

In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.

Reminder: Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the SEL Screener Results Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.

Bike to School Day is May 7th!

Please join us on Wednesday, May 7th  as we celebrate Bike and Roll to School Day! This event promotes physical activity, safe bicycling skills, reduces traffic and concern for the environment. Students who participate will earn a small prize and can sign our poster outside of Door #1 before school. We look forward to seeing you there. Don’t forget to wear your helmet and bring a lock for your bike!

In addition, during May we will be riding bikes during PE class. Students will learn how to wear a helmet properly, check the ABCs of a bike before riding, learn bike safety, learn how to ride, and learn the rules of the road. Students may bring their bikes to ride for PE class, but the school is not responsible for them. Students are encouraged to lock up their bikes on our bike racks. Students are also required to wear helmets when they ride. If a child does not have their own bike or helmet, they may borrow one from our school.

FCPS Cares Program

thanks

Is there a staff member at McNair Upper ES that you would like to recognize?

The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of an FCPS employee or group of employees who should receive FCPS CARES recognition.

Please take note of the following before submitting an FCPS CARES:

  • Submissions are entered through StaffConnect, the HR portal for all employee actions. Select “I want to submit a(n)” and scroll to “FCPS Cares Submission.” The report will use the word “incident,” which is a generic term for all submissions, regardless of type.
  • A notification email, with the submission text included, will be sent to the recipient(s) and copied to the recipient's supervisor(s).
  • All submissions will be posted to our FCPS CARES webpage and shared via other FCPS news outlets.
  • Submissions containing personal or sensitive information may be edited to protect individuals' privacy.
  • Feel free to compose your submission using a text editor such as Microsoft Word before copying and pasting it in the StaffConnect text box.
