Dear Island Creek Families,

With the energy of spring blooming around us, we're also thinking of our wonderful 3rd through 6th-grade students as they approach SOL testing next week. This is their opportunity to demonstrate the fantastic growth and learning they've achieved this year, and we are so proud of them! To help them feel their best, we request your support in making sure they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time on their testing days. Please consult the testing schedule for specific dates.

  • Wednesday, May 7:  3rd and 4th Grade Reading SOL
  • Thursday, May 8:  5th and 6th Grade Reading SOL

We wanted to share that Ms. Baxter, Assistant Principal, has been on leave for the past month and we look forward to welcoming her back soon!

Have a wonderful weekend!

i

All our best,

Jen Fallert, Principal

Karen Baxter, Assistant Principal

Crocs Creed

Did you know that during our daily Morning News Show, the student anchors recite the Crocs Creed character traits? The Crocs Creed poster shown below is in every classroom and displayed throughout the school. Additionally, we have the Crocs Creed character traits as stair stickers on the stairs in the main lobby.

Bike to School Day!

We are celebrating and encouraging students to include a safe route to school as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. Students who ride their bikes can park their bikes during the school day in the gym. Please bring your bike to the back of the school and into the gym, at Entrance #6. Students who attend SACC or childcare or are not within walking distance are welcome to participate with parent approval/ supervision.

If you ride your bike to school:

  • All students must wear a helmet. Fairfax County law requires anyone under 15 to wear a helmet.
  • Check their equipment: Air, Brakes, and Chains.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • See and be seen
  • Go with the flow of traffic, and stay on the right side of the road.
  • Be predictable, and stay alert.
  • If riding on a sidewalk, students should yield to pedestrians and walk their bikes if the sidewalk is crowded with walkers.
  • Beware of cars coming out of driveways if you ride on the sidewalk.
  • Students crossing in crosswalks should dismount and walk their bikes across the street.

Class Placement: Parent/Guardian Input (optional) due Friday, May 9

This spring, Island Creek Staff will begin creating tentative class groupings for the upcoming school year. Classroom assignments will be finalized in mid-August.

When making these placements, we carefully consider many factors, including:

  • Individual student information
  • Teacher input
  • Social relationships
  • A blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests in every class.

Due to the numerous factors involved in creating balanced classroom placements, including teacher staffing, we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers.

If you have information you believe is important for us to consider regarding your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 9.

If you do not have any specific information you would like us to consider, there is no need to complete the form.
