Message from Mr. Greata
Yesterday, we launched our "Make It On Time In May" Challenge, encouraging students to prioritize good attendance and getting to class on time so we can finish the school year strong and on a positive note! We are still accepting $5–$10 gift cards to use as prizes and raffle rewards for students with no tardies during the month of May. Thank you in advance for your continued support—and in case you’re wondering, the freshman class has a commanding lead so far!
Nobody supports us like our PTSO, and now they need our help. We currently have five open positions for the 2025–26 school year, and we’re looking for dedicated volunteers to continue the important work of this vital organization. You can find all open roles listed in the Woodson Weekly, and feel free to reach out to Sara Mastro (saralmastro@yahoo.com) or Nicole Spindler (nicole.l.spindler@gmail.com) with any questions.
It’s time to register for the 15th Annual Woodson 5K Community Walk/Run, taking place on Saturday, May 17 at 8:30 a.m. at Woodson High School. All proceeds benefit Woodson’s Relay for Life, which funds critical pediatric brain cancer research and supports the development of safer, life-changing treatments. The registration link is available in the Woodson Weekly—we hope to see you there!
We’re also proud to recognize six outstanding students who have been accepted into the Virginia Summer Governor’s World Language Academies! These prestigious, residential programs provide immersive language experiences in French, German, Spanish, Japanese (partial immersion), and Latin. Since 1986, more than 10,600 students have completed the program. Congratulations to:
-
Stella Milam – Spanish
-
Celeste Lucado – Japanese
-
Jacob Lee – Latin
-
Anne Tembreull – French
-
Sarah Easter – French
-
Chaitanya Nayak – alternate for Spanish
Additionally, a huge shout-out to An Duong, who has been awarded the Asian Leadership Alliance (ALA) Scholarship! This highly selective honor will be celebrated later this month at the ALA’s Annual Scholarship Banquet. We could not be more proud of this achievement.
Don't miss the opening weekend of Mamma Mia!—tonight at 7:00 p.m., with two additional shows tomorrow! We’re also celebrating our Boys Soccer Senior Night this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the stadium. For all game times and event details, visit woodsonsports.com.
And a heads up, next week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are looking forward to celebrating all that they do to support our students. Please help us celebrate their impact!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Counselor Corner
As we go through 4th quarter, we encourage students to finish well. You have plenty of time to positively impact your grades or maintain your academic momentum. Use the Academic Support padlet for content help and SOL released tests. We have tips on how to guard against procrastination and how to manage test anxiety. Additionally, students who plan to take a summer course should click here to register before classes fill up and close. FCPS allows any student to repeat one failed class through credit recovery. Registration is now open!
Today is the first day in May and the start of our Make it On Time in May Challenge! During this month grade levels and individual students will be competing for prizes, or chances to win raffles by having the lowest number of tardies. In addition to promoting better attendance, we are going to evaluating these positive behavior strategies, as part of the development of our overall plan to address tardies in the coming year. Please help make getting to school and class on time a priority!
AP Testing begins on Monday, May 5th. All students must be on time with a fully charged laptop and login information per College Board – no exceptions.
FCPS Alumni Network is a new, online network of alumni, teachers, parents, and community members that have ties to Fairfax County Public Schools. Through this network, we will celebrate the achievements of our graduates, friends and families, and help them connect with one another.
Join FCPS Alumni Network today to rekindle old friendships and build new ones.
Seniors! If you have received an email from your counselor about CPR, please respond. This is a graduation requirement that must be fulfilled to graduate in June.
Thank you to our students, parents, and faculty who partnered with us for our Spring Advisory Council meeting. It was a huge success and gave us an opportunity to connect, highlight our services, and receive feedback for future programming. We love connecting with our community!
Don't forget to thank your Woodson teachers and staff next week during Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!
AP Exam Information
Attention students who are registered to take an AP exam at Woodson High School during the May 5-16 AP exam window.
Please take the time to review the College Board terms and conditions through their website prior to your testing date, as things may have changed or been updated.
As a student at Woodson High School, expectations for testing are as follows:
Arrival:
- AM test takers will arrive NO LATER than 7:30am in Cafeteria B.
- PM test takers will arrive NO LATER than 11:30am in their designated location (check fcpsschools.net email for your exact location).
-
Students need to arrange for their own transportation on exam mornings as the buses will not drop off students in time for the start of the exam.
Dismissal:
- Students will be dismissed at the end of the exam, once everyone has finished.
- If your student has an afternoon exam, the exam will not conclude until after the regular school day ends and buses depart. Therefore, students taking an afternoon exam will need to arrange for their own transportation home after the conclusion of the exam.
Testing location information and materials:
-
Cell phones, smart watches and any other electronic devices are prohibited and may not be on the student. Students should leave these items at home and not bring them to school on an exam day. If brought into school on a school day, these items should be left in the student’s locker or car (or a friend’s locker or car if they don’t have their own storage location).
- Students will bring their approved belongings (pencils, pens, calculator, snacks) in a CLEAR bag. Backpacks are NOT allowed.
Digital exams:
-
Students must bring their FULLY CHARGED school-issued laptop and charger for digital exams. Students will not be admitted to their testing location without their laptop. Loaners laptops are NOT available.
If you have questions, please contact Woodson AP exam coordinators Jamie Korpacz, Kathleen Crosson, or Pam Todd.
Five Woodson students participated in the GMU EPPIC-STEM (Elevating Pathways, Proficiencies and Interdisciplinary Careers in STEM) experience which allows for high school students to be exposed to the college campus environment while also learning about STEM careers. The students were able to engage with faculty and students representing multiple STEM/STEAM disciplines, learn about all the GMU campuses and the admissions process and were taken on a campus tour by student ambassadors.
