Attendance Notifications

Due to SOL and AP testing and modified bell schedules at base schools to accommodate for testing, May is a high traffic month for attendance calls.  Please allow ample time for our Academy Office to receive and process attendance phone calls and emails.  Parents/guardians do not need to call back to check on attendance notifications unless they receive an evening attendance call out.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Criminal Justice and FCPD Team Up for Exciting Learning Opportunities

Our Criminal Justice classes have been busy with guest speakers and field trips thanks to the support of the Fairfax County Police Department.  Officers from the FCPD Motor Squad visited Chantilly Academy to tell students more about their specialized 29-officer unit.  Students had the opportunity to see the officers operate their motorcycles and took a crack at lifting the 1,000lb vehicles!  The officers also took students out on Stringfellow Road to run radar on moving vehicles.

Criminal Justice students also had an exciting opportunity to visit the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.  While there, students rotated through sessions with six different FCPD units: the DWI Squad, the Drone Unit, the K9 Unit, the Motor Squad, the Crime Scene Section, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.  These sessions gave students an in-depth look at the work that officers do in each of these specialized units as well as the equipment they use.  In addition to meeting the humans of FCPD, students also met several K9s who work for the department including Paisley (pictured below), a bomb detection K9, Duke, a scent tracking K9, and Kona, a patrol K9 who assists in apprehending dangerous criminals.

We are grateful to our partners at the Fairfax County Police Department and all of the incredible officers who take the time to expose our students to the career opportunities in the law enforcement field!
