Greetings, Team Langston Hughes:
I’m so proud of our Panthers! Today’s SOL Pep Rally was a HUGE success; our students and teachers had an amazing time celebrating together!
As we enter the final marking period, it’s hard to believe the last day of school—Wednesday, June 11th—is quickly approaching. Please take note of the following important reminders as we close out the 2024–2025 academic year:
-
PTA Meeting – Monday, May 5th at 7 p.m. We’re looking for parents who want to get more involved! At Monday’s meeting, we will be accepting nominations for President and Secretary for the 2025–2026 school year. If you’re interested in serving—or just want to learn more—join us Monday night at 7:00 PM in the library. We’re planning to vote at the June meeting, so now’s the time to jump in!
-
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week – May 5th–9th: Join us in celebrating our amazing teachers and staff. They go above and beyond every day, and we’re excited to show them how much they’re appreciated.
-
Basketball Showdown – Friday, May 9th at 6 p.m. Come out and cheer on our Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Teams as they face Herndon Middle School right here at LHMS. Let’s bring the Panther Pride—loud and proud! Tickets are $5.00 at the door and will be sold during lunches.
-
SOL Testing – May 6th – May 14th: Standards of Learning (SOLs) assessments measure how students are learning the state standards. The SOLs are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned and what areas they may still need support in. Please partner with us by encouraging your student(s) to do their best on each assessment. Our goal is to help students reach their full potential, and an accurate SOL score is an important data point in that mission. Click here to review our SOL schedule.
-
8th-Grade Dance/Party – for LHMS 8th Graders ONLY – Friday, May 30th
- 7th-Grade End-of-the-Year Awards and Honors (by invitation) – June 3rd – 9 a.m.
-
8th-Grade Moving-On Ceremony – June 4, 2025 – 7 p.m. – SLHS
- Laptop Collection – June 5th and 6th
Thank you, as always, for your continued support!
Yours in education,
Principal Mizell
