Brandon and I would like to thank our wonderful teachers for inspiring, challenging, and equipping our children with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. We would like to express our gratitude for their dedication and commitment to our students and our school community. Woodley Hills is a special place to work because of them!
On Tuesday, April 29th a flyer was sent home requesting that each student write a letter to their teacher telling them how they've helped them grow this school year. If the flyer is lost or misplaced, please have your child ask their teacher for copy or have the student write it on a card.
Please take time to show our wonderful Woodley Hills teachers just how much we appreciate them.
May 7th is National School Nurse Day. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that our school nurses make to students health and learning.
We appreciate our School Public Health Nurse, Jovieh Liray, and our School Health Aide, Geraldine Baird, for their dedication and contribution to the health and welfare of our students by promoting safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a national observance established by Mental Health America in 1949. It is a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those affected by mental health challenges.
At Woodley Hills, we are proud to promote a holistic approach to mental wellbeing through education and community engagement. This month, we encourage parents to take an active role by fostering open conversations with their children, listening with empathy, and teaching healthy coping strategies.
Creating a safe, supportive environment at home—and modeling healthy emotional habits—can make a lasting impact. Seeking professional guidance when needed is also an essential part of supporting our students' mental health.
Throughout May, we will be sharing fun and informative activities and resources to help students learn how to care for their mental wellbeing.
Together, we are building a strong, supportive school community—one step at a time.
SOL tests are the main part of the Virginia Assessment Program for grades 3-8 and are administered each spring. Most students in grades 3-8 take SOL tests for reading and math each year, with science tests and integrated reading and writing components administered in the fifth and eighth grades. Woodley Hills students will be showing what they know on their SOLs on the following dates. Please ensure that students are well-rested and attending school on the days they are scheduled to assess.
